Pak troops violate ceasefire, kill soldier

Jammu, June 14, 2012, Agencies:

?In yet other violation of ceasefire agreement, the Pakistani troops fired on positions of Indian Army along the Line of Control (LoC) killing a soldier and injuring three others on Wednesday afternoon.

An Army spokesman said on Thursday that Pakistani troops started firing at Indian positions in Krishna Ghati sector on LoC in Poonch district, about 240 km north-west of Jammu. ?It was unprovoked firing that hit a soldier on patrol, injuring him critically,? he said.

He said the Pakistani firing intensified when soldiers tried to evacuate their injured mate who later died due to the severe injuries in the neck.

Three more soldiers got injured when the Indian side tried to retaliate. They were shifted to the army hospital where the condition of one of them is said to be critical.

The Pakistani side started firing small arms first. ?But they fired mortars in the night. The firing is still continuing, though Indian side has stopped in a bid to de-escalate the situation,? the spokesperson said, adding that India has asked for a flag meeting with Pakistan through hotline. He also stressed that the Indian response to Pakistani firing was ?measured and calibrated.??
